Announcing the 2023 Asher MacDonald You First Award Winner!!! 🥳🏳️‍🌈We are so happy to announce this year’s recipient, another incredible youth in our community, Ash Tomlik!! 🥳🏆From the nomination for Ash:“Cadet Warrant Officer Ash Tomlik is a local rainbow youth who is part of the 3036 Sackville Lions (RCEME) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps. 🌟Ash is a young advocate who promotes social justice, inclusivity, acceptance, and gender inclusive activities, including sport. 🌟Ash resides in Lower Sackville, currently working on completing grade eleven. A mature sixteen-year old, Ash takes a stand to ensure equal and equitable treatment of all people, using an inclusive and culturally informed approach to working with others. 🌟Ash is highly recommended by their peers as a strong leader, knowing how to work closely and mentor others. Through hard work and dedication to the Canadian Cadet Organization, Ash has inspired countless youth in the community while promoting inclusive-based language and practices.🌟Outside of the Canadian Cadet Organization, Ash promotes and advocates for gender inclusive sport, and has been selected as a True Sport Ambassador highlighting the need for inclusive sport. Published on the True Sport website, Ash states that "as a queer athlete, I try to promote change within my sport. Being inclusive to everyone I meet is a starting point for the change in sport culture that's needed." Ash coaches children within the Sackville Waves Aquatic Team and has competed themselves. 🌟Ash Tomlik is an inspiration to so many of the youth in our communities. They have an incredible approach of working with others, are a fantastic instructor within and outside of the Canadian Cadet Organization, and they are highly recommended by their peers and supervisors. Ash's approach is unique. It is strong, confident, kind, and genuine.
