A Safe Space for Heroes of All Stripes

When you visit Cape & Cowl Comics & Collectibles in Lower Sackville, you can see the pride on Theatre alum Jay Aaron Roy’s (BAH ’07) face.

Cape & Cowl is so much more than a comic book store, they offer counciling for youth, D&D nights for anyone that wants to drop in, and Autisum Nova Scotia have D&D night, as well as they have yoga events and finally they host affordable birthday parties too.

Trans advocate discusses community support, representation

As a young person, Jay Aaron Roy could never have imagined he would one day be a speaker at Halifax Pride.

Halifax-area comic shop offering space for youth counselling

A pilot initiative to offer youth counselling out of a Halifax-area comic shop has taken off better than its collaborators expected.

Cape and Cowl Comics owner Jay Roy proudly declares his space to be a bully-free zone and a trans-owned business in Lower Sackville, N.S. When it’s not being used for organized activities, his shop is open to anyone who wants to drop in. Youth often visit to play board games, watch shows on his retro TV or read comics and books set aside in the cosy space. Roy knows many nearby junior high students on a first-name basis because they often drop by over their lunch hour.   Read More >>>



Sign celebrates ‘trans-owned business’ in Lower Sackville

The owner of a comics shop in Lower Sackville, N.S., has put a “trans-owned business” sign in his window to make the space more visible for members of the LGBT community.

“There’s a lot of trans youth who are coming out. They need to see that we’re here, we’re queer and we own comic book stores too,” Jay Roy, owner of Cape and Cowl Comics and Collectibles, told CBC’s Information Morning.   Read More >>>
